NIH Postdoc fellowship opportunity at NIEHS in NC

North Carolina, United States
Application deadline: 28 Apr 2023

Fully Funded Postdoctoral Position at the NIH

 Molecular Mechanisms of RNA Regulation

National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS)

National Institutes of Health (NIH)

Research Triangle Park, North Carolina

A fully funded postdoctoral position is available in Dr. Traci Hall’s lab at the NIEHS/NIH in North Carolina. They are looking for people who are excited to use structural biology to discover how genes are regulated at the RNA level. They combine molecular, biochemical, and structural approaches to determine how RNA regulatory proteins/enzymes select specific targets and what happens when they engage their targets. Better yet, what happens when multiple proteins work together on RNA targets?

They are seeking a postdoctoral fellow who has demonstrated success in structural biology (X-ray crystallography, NMR, cryo-electron microscopy) or a biochemist/biophysicist whose background is in RNA biology, enzymology, and macromolecular complex formation. Please see their recent publications for examples of our approaches: Molecular Cell 82:4049, Nucleic Acids Research 50:536).

They enjoy a stimulating environment, surrounded by interactive colleagues. Their group is part of the Epigenetics & Stem Cell Biology Laboratory, a diverse department applying different approaches to understanding epigenetic gene regulation.  In addition, their lab is adjacent to other structural biology groups, and they share outstanding facilities, including crystallization and X-ray facilities, regular synchrotron access, and a newly established Cryo-EM Core Facility.  Furthermore, the Research Triangle area has vibrant RNA and structural biology communities. Together these groups provide outstanding mentoring, community, and resources.

 Qualifications:

Candidates must possess a Ph.D. degree, strong communication skills, and publications that indicate a record of accomplishment. Candidates must also have fewer than five years of prior postdoctoral experience.

To apply: Please send an email to Traci Hall (hall4@niehs.nih.gov) including

(1)  Cover letter that explains your background and why you want to join our lab

(2)  CV with publications

(3)  Names and contact information for three references.

Applications will be reviewed as they are received and until the position is filled.
