Open Cryo-EM Facility Manager position at the University of York, UK

University of York, United Kingdom
Application deadline: 01 Jun 2026

We have an open position for a Cryo-EM Facility Manager. Since starting in 2021, the University of York cryo-EM facility has rapidly built momentum. We now have an ambitious and adept user base, sustained grant income across diverse groups, and outputs that we are very proud of. We have published extensive single-particle data, and have a growing publication record in cryo-ET and electron diffraction. The facility is based around a 200 kV Glacios + Falcon-IV housed in the custom-built Eleanor and Guy Dodsons Building. The Glacios was recently upgraded with a Selectris with funds from the BBSRC. The post will lead our facility as we grow in situ structural biology and take advantage of emerging methods in protein structure prediction.

Our cryo-EM facility is a central part of the York Structural Biology Laboratory (YSBL), a research centre of 15 active groups and several emeritus professors, based between the Departments of Biology and Chemistry. YSBL has a brilliant history in both structural biology methods development and application of those methods for biological discovery. YSBL and the wider University is a warm and supportive place to work and we are just as proud of our research culture as we are of our scientific achievements.

The position is open-ended. The application window closes 01/06/2026. For informal enquiries please contact Professor Jamie Blazza (jamie.blaza@york.ac.uk), Dr Johan Turkenburg (johan.turkenburg@york.ac.uk), or Dr Graeme McAllister (graeme.mcallister@york.ac.uk).
