Open positions for postdocs or research scientists to do cryo-EM structural work on amyloids in Houston

Rice University, Houston, United States
Application deadline: 01 Jul 2026

Job offer posted on behalf of Prof. Pernilla Wittung-Stafshede:

I am building up my lab at Rice University, Houston, Texas. To complement the current group of seven biophysical/biochemical oriented students and postdocs, I am looking for talented scientists with cryo-EM expertise. We have access to top-notch infrastructure in house and in Houston. We want to investigate amyloid structures as a function of metabolites and metal ions, focusing on alpha-synuclein but also on other amyloidogenic proteins.

Required Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience with the full cryoEM workflow, including:
  • Sample preparation and vitrification
  • Optimization of freezing conditions
  • CryoEM data collection
  • Extensive experience in cryoEM data processing of amyloid fibrils using Relion and CryoSPARC (globular proteins)
  • Strong understanding of helical reconstruction workflows and fibril analysis
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently in a collaborative research environment
