A post-doc position in NMR-based metabolomics is available in the MIMM team of the CEISAM laboratory in Nantes, France. The postdoctoral researcher will join a project led by MarineLetertre and Patrick Giraudeau, on the development of compact NMR methods for clinical metabolomics research, in collaboration with Bruker (Claire Cannet). The project aims at exploring, in collaboration with Bruker, the potential of a compact NMR instrument operating at 80 MHz for the high-throughput metabolomic analysis of biofluid samples. More specifically, the post-doctoral student will incorporate new high-throughput and highly resolved pulse sequences already available for high-field NMR spectrometers, to improve the performance of benchtop NMR spectroscopy, and facilitate the use of benchtop NMR for research purposes. This project ambition to provide clinicians i)tools to target known biomarkers and quantify them in biofluids in routine clinical analysis and ii) apply untargeted screening to investigate major metabolic differences between patients with different pathologies (patient phenotyping). This project will require working at the interface between NMR spectroscopy, analytical chemistry and metabolomics (including data processing, analysis and statistics), as well as a good understanding of the needs from clinical research. The project will involve frequent interaction with members of the MIMM team, as well as meetings and visits to the Bruker metabolomics facility in Ettlingen, Germany. The MIMM team of the CEISAM lab works on methods developments in solution-state NMR and their application to the analysis of mixtures. It is equipped with state-of-the-art NMR spectrometers, in the 43 to 700 MHz range.
CEISAM is the molecular chemistry lab of Nantes Université, where research includes physical, theoretical and analytical chemistry, organic synthesis and catalysis, and chemical biology. The lab is located in the vibrant city of Nantes, close to the beautiful Atlantic coast of South Britanny.
Skills/Qualifications
Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in chemistry or physics, and have a demonstrated track record
in magnetic resonance instrumentation.
Compétences spécifiques : Experience in NMR of complex mixtures or NMR metabolomics is necessary. Experience in the development implementation of Bruker pulse sequences is desirable. Applicants should also show interest for applications to clinical metabolomics.
Excellent communication skills and a propensity for teamwork are also essential
