Postdoctoral Positions in Structural & Cell Biology | Max Planck Institute of Molecular Physiology, Dortmund, Germany

Two fully funded postdoctoral positions are available in the Structural Cell Biology group led by Dr. Katerina Naydenova at the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Physiology (Dortmund, Germany). Starting August 2026, appointments are initially for 2 years with possible extension. Successful candidates will join a young international team with access to state-of-the-art imaging and structural biology infrastructure.

Position 1: Focus on method development in structural biology, addressing challenges in specimen preparation and cryogenic electron microscopy. Suitable for early-career researchers with a PhD in applied physics or structural biology (completed in the past 12 months or near completion). Relevant experience includes plasma physics, cryogenics, microscopy, microfabrication, image processing, or cryogenic electron tomography.

Position 2: Investigate structural mechanisms underlying immune signaling using cell biology, biochemistry, and structural approaches. Suitable for candidates with a PhD (completed in the past 12 months or near completion) in cell biology, biochemistry, immunology, or related fields. Useful experience includes genetic engineering, protein purification, advanced microscopy, in vitro reconstitution, membrane proteins, or cryogenic electron tomography.

Compensation: According to German TVöD guidelines with standard public-sector benefits.
